Help - Good bariatric surgeons in Buffalo, Rochester, or that area?

I have a big decision to make and my home situation is not making it easy. I am having RNY surgery and originally wanted to go to Barix in Ypsilanti because of their great track record. However, it is more than 5 & 1/2 hours away from home and I have a husband who spends almost all his time in bed in between trips to hospital for dialysis. He is 95 lbs and not well. I am having a hard time thinking of leaving him alone with me so far away for at least a week or two for my surgery. As much as I love Barix, I am thinking I need to re-think this and maybe I can find a good surgeon in Buffalo, Rochester, or some other place very close to the Canadian border (I live in Toronto). Can someone help me with a referral and how I might get in touch with their surgeon? I searched the surgeons on this website but didn't find anyone in that area. However, there must be because I hear about people going to Rochester all the time for surgery. Who are they seeing there? Thanks. I really need your help. I'd like a doctor who does the RNY lap if possible. Barix cleared me for that, but I don't know what to do about my home situation with my husband, nor what to do about finding someone to accompany me on a journey that far from home for so long. I have no family here. Ruth (Toronto)

Ruth, I am currently going through the process to have the RNY lap with Dr. O'Malley at Highland in Rochester. He came highly recommended, as well as, the rest of his group. Best Wishes, Betsy

Hey Ruth Dr Caruana here in Buffalo New York has a Bariatric center of excellence, he is very highly regarded and you can read up on him here on OH. The center is Synergy Bariatrics and if you do a physician search for NY state and enter Joseph Caruana, you can read testimonials on the hospital that they use, his patients testimonials as well as get to his website. Good luck on your journey and God Bless you and your husbands health Janine V
