Got sick and don't know why?
Hi! I had my surgery (Gastric Bypass) on 10/10/06. I have followed my Dr's direction and have been eating only pureed/mush. I measure 2oz every meal and have been doing well. I have had refried beans since I got home from the hospital and they have not been a problem. Today I took 1-2 baby spoonfulls and got bad pain in my chest and wound up vomiting 2 times. It was not a nice experience and I would like to avoid it if possible. Anyone have any idea what went wrong? Thanks in advance!!!!!!! LC
I sent an e-mail to my surgeon and nutrionist as well.

LC,
There are so many things that can cause us to get sick early on, sometimes our pouch just get in a bad mood.
You might have eated to quickly, also since you are early out is that refried beans fat free or is it made with the fat? That can also upset you from time to time, I know I am almost 17 months out and still can get a little sick from to much fat from time to time.
take your time hun, this is all about learning and sometimes we just don't know why things agree or does not agree at times with our new system.
Take care and have a great day! Keep us posted!

Hello!
One thing is for sure, sometimes things after WLS do not make sense... :hrug:
Sometimes it is a picky pouch or the time of day, level of stress, what is going on around you, speed of which you eat all can factor in..
Sometimes it is just not anything other than a picky pouch, and returning to liquids for a meal or day is sometimes needed to soothe an irritated pouch...
It is common for people to tolerate a food for a while then have the pouch reject it!
It certainly can be an intersting joureny and a frustrating one as well..
Make sure the beans are w/o added sugar, maybe a new variety or over heat (not the beans but w/ meats sometimes too dry etc or the sauce they ar cooked in has too much sugar/fat etc)...
Just experimenting w all u can control (behaviorally) the setting being calm, comfortable and not rushed, eating slowly, whewing well, making sure u r hydrated before (many drink up to a meal) others wait 15-30 min, but not drinking with or after (wait at least 30 min to sip)...
The rest is up to the healting and course of the pouch...u may find u never have an issue again and may never explain this, but in reality for 6 mo that pouch heals and just may be a little irritated from time to time and mor swollen or picky!
I wouldn't be concerned at all unless u r vomiting everything (vits, foods, fluids)
then it is time to call surgeon as u could have a stricture..
So an angry ouch stays irritated a day and being gentle w it and soothe w/ warm fluids is helpful as well!
Take Care,
Jamie
