Had my surgery
Hello everyone I am kinda new here but I thought I would jump in I had lap gastric bypass on Oct 18th and I am doing good I have lost 19 1/2 pounds already when I went in for the surgery I was at my highest weight ever at 303 pounds I have a great family who supports me and my family at work. I feel good but I have a problem of not feeling when my pouch is full so sometimes I dont think I'm eating enough and last night I over ate and ended up with a tummy ache. And I also have ghost's in my head telling me I'm hungry and I dont think I really am.
Anybody got any suggestions I would really be greatful.
Thanks M. Jean
are you on pureed foods or full liquids? As soon as I got home I was on pureed foods. I followed serving sizes recommended by my surgeon, and weigh and measure everything. I have a food scale, measuring cups and spoons. I put my food in a small cup and it fills it up, I only eat what is in my cup. I am full usually before I can finish. Are you eating and then waiting at least an hour to drink any liquids? Are you waiting at least 15 minutes after drinking liquids to eat? Head hunger can be a ***** but that's all it is, unless you aren't getting in enough calories or food. Get your protein in and take at least a half hour to eat meals..eat slowly..this always helps with the full feeling.
Hi Monna,
You are doing what many new post op patients do--testing the waters!
We all have to learn what we can and cannot do with our new tools--Just remember that with the pouch you must take in your proteins FIRST (liquid, pureed or regular foods) and if you concentrate on proteins --you will feel full and for longer periods.
Eat slowly, put your fork down between bites, I used a timer to make sure that I ate slowly and carefully at first. Take your vitamins and suppliments every day! Do NOT drink fluids with your meals! In fact, wait at least half an hour before you drink anything!
You are going to feel "head Hunger" that is one of the reasons that I still see a psychologist--after a year, I still have to deal with the emotional reasons for my overeating!
One of the most important things that I can say to you---Start exercising immediately!
Even if it is just to start walking around the block or (do what I did) start wearing a pedometer--and try to do ten thousand steps a day.
Exercise will help you to burn calories, feel stronger, tighten that loose skin( you will have loose skin and you will hate it) and it will help you become smaller faster!
The best thing I learned is to enjoy the journey--it takes a while --but you will look wonderful sooner than you think!
Be Blessed,
Marian SC

Just wanted to thank you for the responses. They all seemed to help. When I got home from the hospital I was still on clear liquids for a few days they went to pureed foods. As of right now I am on stage 3 foods. I am doing pretty good with that I havent had any problems with any dumping or getting sick yet. Sometimes if I start feeling funny I know I need to refuel and grab a small snack.Hopefully now I am off to the right start. Thanks guys.
