Hi All, I have not posted or updated in days...finally feeling up to it. I am almost 2 weeks post op, and I'm on a soft/mushy/pureed diet for 4 weeks. I am concerned about the QUANTITY of food. I fear that I don't get "full". I seem to be able to finish all of a packet of Oatmeal, I measure 1/4 of mushy stuff...and eat it easily. I'm worried !! I eat slowly (1/2 hour) and after the food is gone, I don't feel full! I emailed Dr. Garber and he said "wait until you try Solid foods; then you will see a difference". I feel like I could eat endlessly. I don't feel hunger, but when I do eat I feel like I could continue on and on. I never feel that "full in the throat" feeling. HELP! I'm obsessing and worried. Thanks, Karen

That sounds like me. I'm 3 months out and still don't feel full... until it's too late! If I overeat, it's painful about 10 minutes afterwards, and lasts about 1/2 hour til my tummy empties out. If you're measuring, you should be fine! If you overeat, you'll know it, trust me! Hope this helps, and glad you're feeling better! Traci

Hi traci, YIKES! I don't want to throw up. So far I haven't but as Dr. Garber said, the real feelings come from solid foods. Have you tried measuring out 1/4 cup so you don't vomit? hugsss and thanks, Karen

Karen, Dr Garber is right hun, give it time and you will see once you are on solids.....even with that we do not early on feel hunger or fullness anymore. You will learn after solids what the "new" feeling of full is. It takes time to learn! But for now just eat the suggested serving size and it will be fine. The mushys seem to empty out of our pouches sooner then the solids so that is why you can eat more right now but just eat the amount the Dr said and take your time. I hope that helps....... Debra P

whew...your post made me feel so much better. Here I am thinking I'm the one-in-2000+ of Dr. Garber's patients whose pouch is too big! It's just that I read so much about throwing up...and I never focused on what Stage Food they were on! Thanks again, Deb...you're a sweetheart! - Karen PS: Come down to LI to visit us!

Karen: I was on liquids for 2 wk then soft mushies 1-2tablespoons of food over 15 min. Remember we all heal differently and soft mushies kinda go thru a pouch. I'd stick w/ 2-4T tops (or whatever they recommend), yes solids will probably be qyuite different, and day to day it can change as well! Just focus on the basics, protein first, no eating/drinking togethet, chew well, eat slow, wait 30 min after food for fluid, exercise increase as able etc! Jamie
