Hi again, My surgery was a week ago today (yipppppeeeee). I had a bad sore throat after surgery and it was explained to me that it was normal due to the (spelling?) intubation, the Endoscopy, and (ick) the stapler which all go down the throat. So here it is a week later and the left side on my throat is still horribly painful. It's so bad that it wakes me up. Tylenol and Percoset help only slightly. I called Dr. Garber and again he explained the reason for it but....I have my worries. A week later - Just as bad? Anyone have feedback on this? Thanks again to everyone ---Karen

karen, i had the same thing for about 6 weeks, some days it was worse then others but hung around for a while. I guess it really does get irritated from the tube down your throat during surgery. Give is some time and see how it goes.. How are you feeling otherwise hun? I hope all is ok. Debra P

Hi Deb, UGH 6 weeks! Dr. Garber said to use Cepacol/Sucrets but they have sugar and taste like poo! Reading your reply helped alot though; this board is awesome because it makes me feel "not alone". Thanks again Deb -Karen

Karen, Yes this board is really great for helping and support, it has become my 2nd family. Yes they do have sugar, i wonder if you can find some that are sugar free.....I bet any sucker would help sooth that. Take a look because I know some candy has sugar but you just have to divide the pcs by the sugar and see if one or two might be ok at a time. Debra P

N'Ice lozenges are sugar free and have SOME numbing effect... though not as numbing as sucrets. then there's chloraseptic spray.... and chloraseptic also makes lozenges, but I don't know if they're available sugar free or not. hope you get better soon

Hi Karen Yes that stupid machine always kills my throat after an operation. I know, the pain is horrible. You should try hall sugar free fruit breezers. I like those ALOT better than regular cough drops which taste worse. I always pack those in my hospital bag so I can have them after an operation. Feel better soon!

Karen: GARGLE with the hottest sal****er you can stand every 2 hrs or so also warm liquids (broth, decaf teas) may help soothe it. It is irritation and 1 week is not long I know many who have issues after surgery for a few months...It should lessen, nothing to fret about, unless u get a fever and then someone should check for infection. Be well! Jamie
