I THOUGHT IT WAS ROUX NY? I HAD POSTED A MESSAGE TO ASK FOR OPINIONS ON PAIN LEVEL OUT OF RECOVERY AND REAL NON-SUGAR COATED STORIES OF EXPERIENCES. PEOPLE WHO ARE WRITTING ME BACK ARE SAYING THEY HAD FIVE PUNCTURES IN THEIR STOMACH BUT I WILL HAVE AN INCISION FROM MID-BREAST TO MY BELLYBUTTON. PLEASE HELP ME FIND OUT AND GIVE YOUR OPINIONS TOO IF YOU COULD TAKE THE TIME. MY SURGERY IS 9-26-06!! E-MAIL RESPONSES TO [email protected]. thanks everyone!

The RNY can be done with a lap incision with 5 small holes, there is a mini RNY where they only put 3 holes in you, and then there is the open surgery, where you have one long incision going from your breast bone down to your belly button. It all depends on your surgeon, your weight, and if you've had surgery before. Some surgeons are more comfortable doing a surgery one way over another, if you are SMO a lot of times a surgeon will do a surgery open because it's hard to navigate a big belly. Scott

Hi joli the rouxny can be done in two procedures. Lap RNY where they make 6 tiny holes in your abdomen and the recovery is almost immediate. Most people are back to work in 2 weeks. Some less. I went back to work in a week the other procedure is the open RNY where you have the big incision like what you are having. Your surgeon should have explained all of this to you. If you don't understand, ask him. He May not do the laproscopic procedure. Not every surgeon has that capability. But the open procedure is a much longer recovery time. Some tell me its like having a c-section. Some people have taken 4-6 weeks recovery. It all depends on the individual. But the lap RNY is the best way to go. Check with your surgeon. He May not do the lap. He probably just does the open procedure. Good luck. Keep us posted. Marie edie

Hi Joli, I also had Dr. Cole, and he performed an open RNY, Dr. Moon does the laproscopic RNY and I would imagine that is where the *****ture holes are from. My incision is from breast bone to belly button, w/ two small holes from the drain tubes. They also put a catheter in during surgery as you wont be able to get up right away to use the bathroom, but within a few hours they will get you up to walk, they take the catheter out in two days after you have the barium test. My mother also just had open RNY with Dr. Cole on Sept. 1 and is doing fantastic. I am doing fantastic as well. I had nothing but the best experience possible with this surgery, yes there was a little pain, but honestly I had more pain with my two c-sections. I opted for the epidural pain meds, and have not regretted it at all. My mother also did, and she has hardly taken any pain meds since she came home. I hope this information was able to help you out. Hugs and prayers for a great surgery and speedy recovery. Shannon Arnold
