6 Month Bloodwork
I have a question: What specifically do I need to have my doctor check for when I get my 6 month bloodwork taken? I've seen it before on different messageboards, but I can't think of what to ask for. I'm going tonight to see him for an unrelated issue and I'd like to see if he can schedule some 6 month bloodwork. Should it be things like cholesterol, B-12, I have no idea what else? Any help would be appreciated.

Hi Jen,
I saw Dr. Cole today for a yearly checkup and he gave me a slip for bloodwork
Vit b12, Folate, vit a&d ,Fe, Ibc,TSH ....... thats on the paper he gave me today.
Good news!!! He is sending a letter so I can have approval to have all this skin removed from my belly.

Jen,
Andi is right hun, just ask your surgeon and he will give you all the info that you will need for the proper bloodwork.
I wish you all the best on your check up

Jen:
First who is doingyour LIFETIME follow up? Meaning is there a bariatrician or clinical nutrition doctor who does it or a PCP? Unfortunatelty many PCP's do NOT know what follow-up monitoring we need sadly, many REFUSE to order the needed labs as well saying they are excessive or not needed, and although some are open to education really we need someone who KNOWS Us and what tolook for and order etc, anyone can orde these test but they also need to know how to interpret, why the results show what they show and how to treat the issue! (*Am I making sense w/ this!?). Surgeons often do not want to get involved in the nutrition aspect longterm either (They are good at surgery and such but usually see patients for 1-2 yrs and that is it. Hopefully there is aspecialist in your area.
Here is a list of common labs, can NOT say how often you need due to not knowing results each time, depending on symptoms you may experience even MORE labs or DIFFERENT labs may be indicated, such as if you become anemic or have liver issues etc. Also as more people have WLS each year they have discovered a few more deficiencies/issues (such as recently selenium and copper)...So it is ever changing as well!
