My PCP will not agree to my WLS surgery

Hey Team! I'm really sad right now that my PCP does not agree with my choice to pursue WLS. He went as far as to state I just need to stop being lazy and exercise. By far I highly doubt I am lazy - and I have tried many "fad" diets with the prospect of losing weight, to no avail. I am highly discouraged now - because I was relying on his support to write a statement to be included in my paperwork for my insurance. I have a plea to all my Metropolitan New Yorkers. Anyone from the Bronx, or Manhattan who has a supportive PCP - if your PCP doesn't mind - please be so kind as to email me their contact details - so I may have a consult with them and possibly acquire a suitable statement for my insurance. I'm really desperate at this time - and feel depressed at how my PCP views me. Kindest Regards, susie

Hi Susie So sorry to hear of what you have had to endure. Besides those like us, many just cannot understand what we go through. Hang in there and stay strong. The journey towards trying to get WLS, for those of us who have no choice but to rely on insurance, requires a lot of patience, and I know all too well that it doesn't make it easier when others throw in a roadblock. I am not sure if my PCP takes your insurance, but I will find out and repost here to let you know. If she does, then I will email you her info. and you will need to contact her and try to get an appointment, and possibly see her for six months (her office also offers diet advice), since your insurance will most likely require that. However, if you get to speak to her, speak of your past struggles and she if she would consider noting that instead, not sure that it can work that way, but try. Otherwise, six months can go by before you know it. I can say for myself that she not only gave me the info. I needed, but she made sure it was as detailed as possible in favor of the surgery. So I will get back with the answer, and until then, best to you always and God bless. Liz

Thanks for all your consideration Elizabeth! I hope your doctor can take me on her roster if possible. I understand there are no guarantees, so any help you can provide will be greatly appreciated. Thanks again ^_^ susie

I'm sorry your PCP is giving you a hard time. I think he had a lot of nerve telling you that you are lazy. I would have given him a piece of my mind. I hope you did. My suggestion is that you ask your surgeon if he can recommend a PCP or ask one of his other patients. I hope you find a new PCP soon. Joanne

Your responses and decision to seek out a new PCP have made my day. I'm happy that my suggestion helped you and made you feel better and I'm glad I was able to help. Remember one thing; this is your life and the decisions you make are yours and yours alone. No doctor or anyone else should make them for you. Joanne

Hi Susie, you aren't going to like my response, but here it goes anyhow!! My PCP didn't agree with my choice either. After a long, hard look at what he said I decided to give it another try. If you wish to read it, the story is in my profile. I am not saying WLS is a bad thing, not at all. I have received heaps of support from this site, regardless of the way I chose to make my journey. Just thought I'd share. Donna
