Just wanted to say thanks for all your words of encouragement and assistance, back when I was looking for a place to stay. I'll be coming into LaGuardia on September 19th, with my mom beside me. We've booked a placed to stay in the Fort Greene area of Brooklyn, NY. I'm hoping it's not too difficult a trip into Manhattan using the numerous transportation options available. My question is this....if you have 1 full day to do the tourist thing in New York (Manhattan), what would you recommend as "not to be missed"? I'm already wanting to check out the Empire State Building, the site of the World Trade Centre and Central Park. I'll be low on money, so I won't be able to do ALL that I want...but just walking around interesting places will be fun. Oh, I also want to check out the Met, which will have a photography exhibit on display called After the Storm (or after the Flood? not sure)...I love photography. Hope you are all doing well! If anyone wants to get in touch while I'm in the area, please email me directly. Thanks! Christine

Hello Christine! NYC is soooooo big, one day is hard ...BUt you really do need to see ground zero....and of course the empire state building. Central park is a must...Yankee Stadium and Madison Square Garden are great to visit also....The village is great also, you really get to see what manhattan is all about there. I dont know if you do pizza but Johns Pizza on Bleeker street in the village is the place to eat pizza, very thin crust which is perfect for us.....Times Square is a sight to see as well.....I could go on and on...lol.........LisaMarie

Hi Christine, What my daughter and I did when we went, was to get an all day ticket to the double decker bus line, not sure of the correct name, we paid I think $37 each and rode on top of the bus all day, getting on and off in different locations, that way we got to see from Time Square, China Town, Little Italy, Macy's, Empire State Building, World Trade Center, Central Park, Statue of Liberty, just to name a few of the places we were able to see. Now I will tell ya, you wont have time to go into all these buildings, but it is a great way to see the city and do a little shopping, just whatever you want to do. There is a selection of uptown or downtown, and I think Brooklyn or some place else. We chose the Loop that would get us the most bang out of our buck, they have a map for you to look at so that you know which you want , and to also find where the bus stops are in each area. Hope this helps. Shannon

you need to see....Rockefeller Center, St. Pats Cathedral, FAO Schwartz then hop through Central Park (you can stroll but hopping is calorie burning!), I'm not big on museums but you do as you want there! Empire State Building, Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island, Site of the Trade Center still makes me cry like a baby! Be Well and enjoy our city. ANDI

Many Thanks for all your responses. I'm anticipating lots of emotions when I visit "ground zero". I'm kind of torn going with my mom, cause I hate crying in front of people. I also have an overwhelming urge to hug a fireman...is that inappropriate? I'll keep all your suggestions in mind. Christine
