New-Worried About Insurance

Hello Everyone, I am new to this site. I am in the pre-authorization period at Mount Sinai. I have United Healthcare POS and am worrying that my surgery will not be covered. I have spoken with the billing manager at Mount Sinai and he assured me my surgery should be covered in my policy, but, I am still very leery, and worried. I am going for a Laproscopic Lad Band. I'm 5'9 1/2 and 318 pounds. Any comments you have would be wonderful! I have been overweight my entire life and have been considering surgery for 3/4 years now. I'm 28 and am determined to do something just for me and my health! :angst:

The best and only advice I can give you is to PRAY!!!! I am like you and finally made the decision to go forward with my weight loss surgery, now I have to play the waiting game so pray for me and I'll pray for you!! You can always call the insurance company also and ask for the status of your claim, make sure the hospital and doctor are participating with your company and then, pray and wait!

Been there done that! I have Mutual of Omaha and I've read a few places that they have declined everyone, so talk about nervous??? Yeah, I was indeed. Come to find out, it took 2 days for them to APPROVE me. So worrying didn't help, just made me stress out. I know I can't tell you not to worry, but be pro-active, and do some research on your own insurance company and their policy. If all else fails, I am sure you can change insurance companies if need be. Best of luck Molly

I believe u'll be alright.... most of the people i spoke to that did the lapband had united healthcare and were approved... anyways the doc deals with that due to ur height and weight u should be fine!! I couldnt start because i had to renew my insurance...sux.........but ill be testing really soon.. Dont worry...be happy!!
