I just had my labs redrawn and everything looked good except for the vitamin D, which I've been low with that even before the revision (VSG to RNY in March 2016).  I'm also getting a B12 shot because on my first labs, that result was low, but all better now since my PCP prescribed the monthly injections.

I have a weekly pill box that I can easily divide everything up and I take the stupid things with me to work, but I still find that I either don't take them at all, or take part of them, etc.  I hate taking the damn things to be honest, but I know that I need to.  Any suggestions out there?  Or do I just need to suck it up and make myself do it?

Try searching Pinterest. You'll find a ton of variations. Here are a couple I use, but vary a lot:

for an Asian-ish flavour, great for stir fries:

1/4 cup soya sauce, 1/2 t each of powdered garlic, ginger and sriracha sauce (these are conservative amounts and you might want to play with them to get the flavour you want.

simple chicken rub:

1T smoked paprika

1/2 t of garlic powder

1/2t salt

2T oil

Optional : 1T of brown sugar I've made with and without. It's fine both ways, but I prefer with a bit of sugar, and the overall impact on my carb count is minimal.

hope it helps a bit!

Many people develop lactose intolerance post surgery. Some other foods disagree with us for various reasons too.

I enjoy flavorful meat more than a flavorful recipe. Nothing like a grilled ribeye.

Not fish, please. But flavorful recipes, marinades, coatings, etc for beef, chicken and pork. Struggling to enjoy protein haha

Yup, lots of foods are off limits now!

lactaid makes a lactose-free cottage cheese that I can tolerate. And now (1 yr out) I can tolerate small amounts of hard cheeses. And sweet protein drinkks - eeeew

My go-to foods now include fat-free re fried beans, fresh strawberries and oranges, apples if eaten w some cheese or nut butter, tofu, homemade hummus (no oil added), steamed cauliflower and broccoli, potatoes (cooked in any way that doesn't use oil/fat), split pea soup, moist fish, and occasionally rotisserie chicken. Eggs make me nauseous, any other meats, any breads, and rice get "stuck", and anything with significant added oil or fats make me very sick. Hope some of those ideas help you!

Oh wow, you have really had a tough recovery!  I hope things calm down for you now.

According to my nut & surgeon, water/fluids is more import than food. Those of us who've had wls have plenty of body fat stores to sustain us when we aren't getting calories, but we can get very ill very fast from not getting enough fluids. In fact they told us that dehydration was the number one cause of rehospitalization

So, you might want to focus on getting your calories in the form of liquids at this point   I had a lot of trouble tolerating foods the first month or two, including protein drinks; here are some "calories" I discovered I could always tolerate during the early stages:

  • split pea soup (removed any hunks of ham; chew chunky-style soups well before swallowing)  it's super high in protein and most types are very low in fat
  • lactose free cottage cheese (chew well before swallowing)
  • Fat-free re-fried beans (alone or on crackers)
  • "chicken soup" protein
  • Once soft non-puréed foods were allowed:
  • - fresh strawberries (all other fruits made me dump)
  • - moist mild fish (salmon, flounder, tilapia) with broccoli (steamed till very soft) and a little mashed potato or sweet potato (no added fats or sugars)
  • - saltine crackers with a tiny schmear of pub and low-sugar strawberry jelly

a lot of things that are commonly recommended did not work well for me -- eggs, chicken, yogurt or anything made from milk (like many other wls-ers , I'm now lactose intolerant) -- all of these caused major stomach pain.

Hope those ideas help. Hang in there!

If you find one you like, please let me know because everything I've tried has been NASTY. Part of the problem is that vegan ones seem to be sweetened with stevia, which I just cannot stand the taste of.
