Topic: RE: Small Meals vs. Grazing

There are multiple thoughts on this- my bariatric team encouraged eating every two or three hours, just to get in the protein needed to assure a successful recovery from surgery. The team says that eating a couple of ounces every few hours keeps your digestive track moving and helps keep a constant level of protein for the healing process.

After a few months, you'll be able to handle a little more food in your stomach, so you won't NEED to have as many frequent meals. But my office still likes the idea of multiple SMALL meals each day, and strongly recommends that we plan each meal out.

On my food tracking site (MyFitnessPal.com) I have it set up so there are six "meals" each day. I have Breakfast, Morning Snack, Lunch, Afternoon Snack, Dinner, Evening Snack. I "pre-load" these meals the day before so I always have a plan, then update as life happens and things change. Here's today's menu:

B- 9 shrimp with 1 tsp of ****tail sauce

MS- (missed this morning but would have been 1/3 cup cottage cheese with protein powder)

L- (normally a tuna pack but today...) 1 cup blueberries plus 1/3 cup cottage cheese

AS- Can of Pure Protein Frosty Chocolate shake (will be consumed after my bike commute home)

D- Left over taco meat (3/4 cup) with a sprinkle of cheese

ES- Shrimp with a little ****tail sauce

That results in a high calorie day - 768 calories and about 100 g of protein (and 29g carbs thanks to those blueberries). Normally I try to keep under 700 calories. I'm three months out btw.

Topic: Get Rich Quick!

I was just sitting here at my desk, frustrated with all the protein powders, drinks, bars, that I've purchased since my WLS and thinking "WOW someone needs to start marketing a "NOT SO SWEET" brand of quality Whey Isolate foods!"

Just think, If we all threw in a couple hundred dollars (wait a sec while I go sell some plasma) we could do this ourselves! I mean clearly there are plenty of sources of plain whey isolate, we just need to create the rest using a FRACTION of the sweetener!

Here's my fantasy line up:

  1. Coffee with Cream (flavored with REAL coffee, no sweetener used)
  2. Tea with cream (I'm thinking the "cream" will be required to cover the whey flavor)
  3. Dark Chocolate (like all the chocolate protein powders but with a sweetness level comparable to 60% cocoa bars!)
  4. Vanilla with low sweet index that would be easy to sub for almond milk etc...
  5. Milk - yep... just mix this powder (or pour it from a carton) and you can use it just like 2% milk...
  6. Berry, lemon, lime, orange, fruit powders that have about 1/3 the sweetness
  7. Truffle sized dark chocolate nuggets with 10g protein

What would your fantasy protein concoctions be like?

I am pre-op but trying to eating something every 2-3 hrs. Is this grazing? Should I stick to set meals and snacks instead?

ceejae124, this board doesn't get a lot of activity. You might have better luck if you post in either the General Discussion board, or the one specific to whichever surgery your are having. Good luck!

Hello

I had gastric bypass in 2009 and lost from 280 to 135 within the 1st year. I've

I lost 122# and have kept it off for seven years with no exercise at all.

it is not about what you do st the gym, it is about what you choose to put in your mouth.

I hear you. Join the club.

I don't want to go on the scale because I don't want to know the truth.

4 months ago I had knee problems but it was behind my knee.

I have no insurance to see why my knee is swollen. Lucky I have no water in my knee. But I can't put pressure on my knee. Squats are out of the question. More the 30 min walks my knee swelled up.

But going on OH is helping me my brain to get back on track.

I'm 5 years out

Topic: Pre-Surgery Meal Prep Ideas

Hello. I started the process of seeing if I'd qualify for WLS in September 2016. It has been a long process, but I completed my 6-month diet and exercise plan with my PCP plus the additional requirements in order to submit to my insurance company for approval. My insurance company approved my surgery in mid-May and I just had the labs and EGD about two weeks ago. I have an appointment with my surgeon 7/5 to go over all these results and see if we can schedule my surgery. I'm so excited to have surgery, and I've worked so hard and waited so long, but it seems the closer I get the more I keep falling back into old/bad habits.

I started at 505. I got down to 471 at one point, but I've crept back up to almost 485. I have a feeling he's going to tell me I need to lose more weight before we can schedule my surgery so I'm trying to get a jump on some easy meal prep ideas for breakfast and lunch that I can pack and take to work with me. Those seem to be the two meals that cause me the most trouble.

Any ideas would be very much appreciated.

Thank you!

I hate to tell you taht - but movement - exercise is secondary to weight loss, diet is the primary reason we can lose weight.

we also may lose muscles when we don't exercise - put strains on them.

Exercise is good for us - for circulation... diet- is what really helps us lose weight.

I started exercise more because I wanted to gain some weight. I wanted to gain muscles. And prevent my muscles loss. so far I stopped the loss.

good luck...

The taste is ok but on the sweet side. The texture is good and it mixes easily. I may try adding PB2 (powdered peanut butter) to cut down on the sweetness. It does actually taste like peanut butter cookie dough. The price is lower per ounce than a lot of powders. Overall I'd recommend it.
