Because I didn't learn the truth, the correct way to do it, until recently. And while I'm still fat, I'm much LESS fat. It doesn't happen overnight.
I'm still technically obese only because I weighed so much at the beginning and it takes time to lose weight using any method. I'm much LESS obese now. I've lots 20% of my weight in 4 months, I'd say that's pretty good. And it just keeps coming off. I'm SO glad I didn't get my guts rerouted!
Last week I lost about 5 pounds. During that week I ate steak and cheese subs (on a wrap), pastrami sandwiches, chinese food, and lots of other things I like. And my blood sugars were all in the normal range.
Wrong about what? I never said surgery didn't work. I said it's unnecessary because you can get exactly the same results without it, And you can. I'm living proof.
You said "complications from any medical treatment only come from that medical treatment. I guess no one should pursue any sort of medical treatment"
NO, I didn't say that. What I meant was that one shouldn't have UNNECESSARY surgery, especially when it's as risky as WLS.
And I'm not angry at people who have gotten WLS. Most of them had no idea there was any other option. They thought it was the only way, but it's not. I'm angry at the hospitals who are pushing it like drugs to people because it makes them lots of money. They completely ignore other options and all the risks involved.
Most of the research to this point has been on animals - there's lots of that. But in the end, the same research that prove WLS works well applies to intermittent fasting - they both involved a huge calorie reduction. WLS isn't technically fasting, but it might as well be due to the teensy amount of food you can eat afterwards. WLS is just surgically enforced fasting. There is no mechanical difference between the two mechanisms.
I ask you: do you believe there is any kind of physical or medical benefit to the surgery itself? What I mean is, it simply forces you to eat a lot less. Do you think that you would get the same results if you just followed the post-surgical diet from WLS without getting the surgery? Or do you think there's something magical going on?
I agree! Good think I'm not recommending a diet. I'm recommending doing exactly what you are doing: eating a lot less. I am getting 100% exactly the same awesome results. I just didn't have to have my guts rerouted to do it.
At 5 months out, I'm about 2 lbs from goal. I'm struggling to eat well, and I'm just tired of the "same old-same old"!
I got some wonderful advice about increasing my calories gradually so I can head to maintenance.
I know I need to continue protein first, then dense carbs like vegetables. I am not a big dairy person, other than Premier Protein and fat-free cheddar; oh, and Triple Zero yogurt.
Is there a link or something that would help?
Thanks

I have had 20grams of protein today, which used around 400 calories.
What can I eat in order to get at least 40 more grams of protein in under 800 calories?
I am a vegetarian (no meat or seafood) so my options are limited...
Thanks for the heads up, Gwen. I go for my bloodwork next month so I think I will keep at it and see what happens. I have added B12, iron and Vitamin D supplements so maybe it won't be bad.
I love Dr Salameh!
Remember that hunger is not an emergency. Track everything you eat with something like MyFitnessPal. Make sure you're getting in good dense proteins and fats as those things will keep you full.
