As many of you will I'm sure be glad to hear, I am giving up and leaving. The one thing we agree on it that I will never convince you. You'll all made your decisions already and they can't be reversed, which is very sad to me but can't be changed now. I was hoping to reach some pre-surgical people, but sadly again, there aren't any. I'm sad that so many of you are rude and insulting to people who say things you disagree with even when they're true. I'm sad that there is such a clear lack of knowledge about important issues. I'm sad that there are so many myths and incorrect information about fasting out there.

Mostly I'm sad that so many people today choose to remain immune to any opinion or knowledge that they don't already agree with and refuse to consider new things. Clinging blindly to your old way of thinking in the face of new evidence is really bad. But, once again, I'm not going to solve that problem here either, so I bid you adieu.

I'm sure many of you will want to write extended rants defending your positions. Save your time. I won't see them. I'm unsubscribing from this thread and not returning to this site (waits for cheers to subside). Have fun discussing issues only with people who already agree with you. Write all you want, but I'll never see it.

Adieu!

Feel free to come back in 5 years when you're still SMO and struggling. We'll be here, ready to help.

Soy milk has 8g protein, silken tofu has 21 g protein, blend together with cocoa powder and sweetener or some protein powder for easy protein.
Cottage cheese also has 13 grams per half cup.

Questioning assumptions in a mean, nasty, hateful way , like almost everyone did, is reacting like a child. And you are the only one who posted any scientific links. The ones that were valid weren't applicable to the discussion.

You posted links and arguments that show WLS works, but you were responding to an argument that I wasn't making. I never said it didn't work. I said there are other, nonsurgical ways to get the exact same results.

You know that resorting to name calling show that you are losing an argument, getting frustrated because people respond to you not in a way you expect.

Let me point to you that a lot of us who had WLS tried everything or close to everything. Including fadtfas. Fasting and study of fasting is real really old science. Old does not mean wrong. I believe in fasting. I believe in system detox, etc etc. But sometimes it is not enough.

WLS surgery does change hormonal response. Different than fasting.

I probably read more books and studies and research on fasting that you can imagine there is. I was doing fasting and IF in my 30's. Getting good results, and not realized I was slowly damaging my HPAA.

Do what you long term. Lose the weight, keep it off for years... Then tell people about that. 6 months - is nothing. You are still high on hormones due to fasting. High energy, enthusiastic. Good for you.

Topic: RE: Keto?

I did low carb about 8 years ago and was in the best shape of my life. Stopped because reasons and gained the weight back. I'm back to it and doing keto now and feeling better again. For people with addictive like tendencies towards sugar and carby food it works very well as long as you stick with it.

I know my answer to you was long, and looks like you skip part of it when I started that I did IF and fasting (a few times even longer term fasting- is 28 days) and I got results first few times I was doing it, but it was not sustainable in long term. Eventually my body reverted to storing calories - by changing my hormonal response and I gained all the weight. And then it was close to impossible to lose it.

Btw- fading is really hard on adrenal system. My eventually gave up. Right now - from you very entuzjazm and energy you have - I can see myself in you when I was literally getting high on cortisone while fasting. I've been there - done that.

You better start reading on adrenal stress due to fasting. Very interesting stuff, scary stuff. I personally think that my HPPA system was partially damage during my frequent fasting and diets. They still work, but barely.

Again - do it for 6 years, without regain of a significant amount of weight and then come back. Show long term results.

Fyi- in maintenance long term I am currently following IF not to lose weight but to be healthy. If is very natural way of eating. Very intuitive and rewarding.

Honestly what did you expect when you come in guns blazing complaining about a WLS board being devoted to mostly WLS discussion? Were you expecting everyone to pat you on the back for criticising their health decisions? Imagine going on an IF board and telling people there that it's unhealthy. You'd get the same reaction.

Topic: RE: Switching to Decaf....

Coffee is a heck of a drug, and the withdrawals can be pretty awful. When my husband needs to come off coffee, he usually makes it with 3/4 regular then 1/4 decaf for a week, then 1/2 and 1/2 for a week, then 1/4 regular and 3/4 decaf until it's all decaf. You could try shorter time between switches but a week is what works for him to avoid headaches and other withdrawal symptoms.

It was recommended by Dr Adkins for people who were burned out on his protein diet plan. You eat only fresh fruit and vegetables.

No meat, no fish, no dairy, and no sugar or flour or white carbs. Just fresh apples, peaches, pears, berries, grapes, pineapple, cabbage, lettuce, broccoli, melon, green beans, spouts or onions.

The trick is you do no protein for a while. I did it for a month. I had stalled after two years low carb. I lost 14 pounds and went back to low carb.

I'm on a ketogenic diet. Ketogenic diets and bariatric surgery go together well, because ketogenic diets maximize the metabolic benefits we get from surgery.

As for being afraid of fat causing weight gain, it is typically processed carbohydrate that causes us to gain. Even fruit. Fruit, sadly, has my weight skyrocket. I do have more protein than most, though, because I have malabsorption. Even without that, it's unlikely you will gain weight eating higher fat.

I just hit my protein macro and eat fat after. I don't really use fat bombs and stuff like that.

I follow a ketogenic diet post-op. I also have a diagnosis of binge eating disorder. Feel free to ask me about either!

Premier Protein's clear shakes use whey protein and are 90 calories and 20g of protein. Whey and soy protein can also be added to things to boost it. But, protein powder can always help augment what you are eating. Whey protein isolate is the most digestible, though.

If you are post-op be aware that the protein in plants is not as well absorbed as from animal sources, so you may need to rely more on protein powders.

Here's an example of whey protein with decent amounts and low calories per scoop:
