walmart. pre-op= any low carb whey
post op- depends on surgery - look for whey isolate.
Costco - they have good proteins - and often they have coupons. They have powder and premade.
don't forget vitamins and minerals. I get mine cheaply in CVS when they have B1G1 sales. I typically get their brands - and multi- CVS Spectravite works great for me.

I wouldn't go too deep into a liquid diet too fast because you're surely going to get sick of them fast. I actually started out by replacing one meal a day with a fruit/veggie/protein smoothie. Then about a couple months out I started really getting into using protein shakes to supplement my meals. I'm now 9 days pre-op and almost on a full liquid diet (having plain chicken or tuna one meal a day). I only like to drink the pre-mixed protein when I need to grab and go. I keep my work fridge stocked with Premier Protein (the chocolate and strawberry aren't bad), but at home I would rather mix it myself so I can add flavors or blend it up with ice and almond milk. I love Nectar... so far I have tried the Vanilla Torte and Caribbean Cooler and I love both. I have also tried ISO100 in Birthday Cake flavor and it's really sweet but not bad. Isopure Zero Carb is really high quality protein and makes me super full, but tastes awful on its own with water. I like to use that one in the blender with PB2 and almond milk and a little Stevia and ice and it makes a great peanut butter cup shake. I definitely recommend investing in a good blender (I love my NutriBullet to death) and/or a couple of good Blender Bottles. And most importantly keep reminding yourself that what you're going through is going to be so worth it!!!
I'm on day 5 of my 2 week re-op, and so far I have been quite selfish and refused to cook or grocery shop for my husband. Instead, he has been making me a plain chicken breast on the grill while he makes himself a steak, and picking up his own groceries and some of mine so I can avoid the grocery store depression. I feel really lucky to have him supporting me so much. This phase has been so hard for me so far and I can't imagine having to cook or buy food I want to eat so badly but can't have! The only advice I can give you is maybe to bite the bullet and meal prep a whole bunch of meals right now so you just have to heat them up for the next couple of weeks. But definitely stuff yourself full of plain chicken and protein shakes first! Maybe ask the hubby to help you with the shopping and cooking more so you don't have the temptation?
Hello all!
I'm having a difficult time eating. I can only ear about 2/3 cup of food and I'm full for hours. I get hot flashes if I eat more than that or even if I wait 30 minutes. How much should I be eating at 1 year 8 months? How many cups per sitting? How often and how many meals a day?
hi all, I am exactly 1 month out from my VSG. I was really lucky in that things went completely smoothly, I was up and on my feet in just a few hours, and have not had a single problem taking in my required liquids and protein since the very beginning. Haven't thrown up even once, nor have I experienced any heart burn or indigestion. I lost 22 pounds in the three months leading up to surgery, and have lost a whopping 26 in the month since. All in all I am feeling f@#%'n amazing and wish I had done this years ago.
My question...I know that we should do everything we can to take advantage of the honeymoon stage. I am still not on a completely full texture diet...still have 2 weeks of chopped foods to go. Per day, I have been averaging between 75 and 90 grams of protein with a total caloric intake of between 650 and 750. Does this sound right? What were others doing during their first several months as they strove to meet their goals? I am not hungry, which is amazing, and part of me feels like I could actually lower my caloric intake.
I would love to hear from others their thoughts and suggestions.
Thanks.
Mathew
Hi Leah,
You need to get a new nutritionist. Period.
They are supposed to give you tools to help with your success, not shame and yell at you. I am appalled that this is happening to you! Seriously, find someone else!
