This is an excellent post! I am just considering my options so I don't have anything of value to add except to thank you. You have given me something to think about and I look forward to seeing replies.

Topic: Poll - Regain - 50%

1. At some point in time, have you regained at least 50% of the weight you lost post surgery?

2. What do you believe are contributing factors?

3. How are you addressing or did you address the regain?

I think this is a good topic, because many of us are/were ashamed that after taking such a drastic measure, we were moving back in the wrong direction. Post surgery regain is far more common than one would think.

At one point, I gained 80 of the 150 pounds I lost, exercised like a maniac, reduced intake, liquid diets, etc., struggling for 13 years after surgery to be an average of 40-45 pounds overweight at any given time.

Finally, I found what works for me, and have reached and easily maintain the weight I achieved 1 Year after surgery over 20 years ago.

For me, I believe the constant insulin (fat storage hormone) spikes by snacking, high carbs, high protein (which spikes insulin), regardless of calorie count, and constant small meals interfered with my success. Note: I am not, nor have I ever been a diabetic.

What works for me: time restricted eating, good high fat, moderate protein, minimize refined carbohydrates. Psy-K to lock in behavior change.

Please share your experience. Thanks!

It might be indeed time to visit a surgeon so you can find out why you have these problems you're talking about.

Topic: RE: Vegetarian and Cannot Tolerate Whey Protein: HELP!

There are tons of plant based protein powders out there. Soy, pea, rice, hemp, wheat, sunflower, mixes of several sources...

At proteinmixer you can decide how much % of what source will be in your mix.

Topic: 13 years out and questions

Hi everyone. I used to be a regular on this site when I was researching my surgery and for a few years afterwards. But its been years and well,,life got busy.

Im 72 years old, very active but having some complications related to my surgery. I originally lost 140 pounds but have since regained 70 pounds. I cannot tolerate dense proteins. Very little meat or fish, or salads will stay down. I get the foamies and up they come. However, I CAN tolerate carbs and junk! Anything like crackers, chips, bread, cheese, gravy, these I can do! I tried chicken, but only can hold a few bites before the foamies start. I am in a state of perpetual hunger. So, I scavenge for anything that can stay down. I usually start my day with an egg sandwich with cheese,,cereal wont work and usually only a third of the egg. Lunch is tuna salad or egg salad,

As a result, I am suffering from vitamin deficiency, have had to have iron infusions, and am in constant pain in my legs and feet, my hands tingle and are numb a lot. Restless legs is another problem that is worsening all the time.

I had little followup with my surgeon due to his moving away, but have finally been referred by my new PCP to Dr Inman in Indianapolis. I have an appointment with her and her nutritionist on July 5.

My question,,does it sound like a need for a revision? ai have started drinking protein shakes again, but its not enough. Im hungry! My daughter is a personal trainer and thinks that I am constantly in starvation mode so my body holds on to every calorie and carb it gets. I really am at my wits end. Im tired of not being able to eat what is good for me. Ground beef works, and some light fish, but thats not enough iron or protein.

Any thoughts appreciated. Im anxious to get back on the losing bench, but cant do a diet because I cant keep the protein down. GRR,,

Anyone else suffer from this malady? What did you do?

Topic: Pre and Post-Surgery Food Plans for Traditional Central American Palate

I've a pre-surgery patient who has recently moved to the US and is struggling with the meal plans that are not what the patient is accustomed to eating. At home in Honduras, he says that they are told to eat the same food as they always have just in smaller amounts. There is not the strong emphasis on protein, and reduced carbs. Rice and beans are a big part of his diet now. How have others adjusted their pre and post surgery diets who have a more traditional Central American way of eating? Any one have guidance?

Topic: RE: HELP! Can't stop eatting!

I know this started back in 2017, but since it was just edited I thought I would give some advise. I found what helps me is eating like I?m supposed to, then when I have ?the munchies? I drink a glass of hot sugar free cider or sugar free hot chocolate. Drinking something that?s hot fills up my stomach and helps keep me from eating. Hope that helps.

I ended up having a bowel blockage, vomit in my longs, pneumonia, heart rate of 145. Went back to hospital last Saturday and went back into surgery by 4:00. They had to reopen all five incisions. Spent 9 more days in hospital. Moral of the story is listen to your instincts and get back to the hospital immediately if you think there is something wrong. I pray that the worst is over.
