Trouble with certain Foods

I am just wondering if after surgery anyone has experienced issues with food that agreed with them before. I had surgery on the 9th of December the sleeve and since then I am having issues with yogurt and milk. I tried lactose free yoghurt this week and no issue. Also how do you get enough protein I am only eating 400 to  650 calories daily and usually get 40 to 50 grams, but not hungry to add more food. I cannot do protein shakes at this time as my stomach flips and flops. I need suggestions I have gone on Pinterest and printed off lots of protein recipes and will start trying this.

Maybe non dairy protein shakes are worth trying. Vega protein is a pea based protein powder. I've heard a number of people who become lactose intolerant post op.

im almost 4 months post op rny and still use 1 protein shake a day. Depending on the type of dense protein, I can eat 2 -3 oz at a time. Pork, and certain steaks are the only types where I can get 3 oz consistently. You are still early days. I'd focus on just getting a few more bites of protein you can tolerate per day, but I would cut other things out to keep your overall calories down.

Also, check out the vsg and rny daily menu threads. It will give you a good idea of what people here eat every day.

good luck!

Oh, I have definitely found foods that I had no issue with before that now don't agree with me.  I have also become lactose intolerant, so I switched to almond milk.  For me it's just milk, I don't have issues with cultured dairy like yogurt or cheese.  I also am super sensitive to sweet things now.  I used to live on Crystal Light Green Tea with Peach and Mango...now I can't drink it.  It tastes funny and it's waaaay too sweet.  After a lot of trial and error (every imaginable Kool-Aid type mix, water enhancers, etc.), the only drinks I can tolerate besides water are iced tea, and Diet Lipton Green Tea with Citrus.

I also used to be a coffee fiend, but now can't find one that tastes right to me * sighs *

Have you been using pre-made protein drinks, or mixing your own?  If you mix your own with unflavored protein powder, you could use almond or soy milk (or whatever you now drink) and add your own flavorings, that might make them better for you.  I also mix protein powder in with beef or chicken broth, it's a really tasty way to get extra protein if the shakes are a no-go.  Or mix the powder in with your yogurt, another way to get more in.  Good luck!

I can totally relate.  My taste buds have changed dramatically.  The only drink I could tolerate was Lemonade 15.  Even though it has calories, it was the only drink that I could stand without experiencing nausea.  Protein shakes were awful, anything sweet grossed me out.  Cottage cheese continues to be a "go to" but if you are experiencing difficulty with lactose not a good option.  Refried beans, lentils, tuna, scrambled eggs, chicken soup (home made crock pot the only way I can tolerate chicken right now), pork (pork chop, pork roast) in crock pot, shrimp (love), Oscar Mayer oven roasted turkey, Unjury Chicken soup, etc.  Hopefully this helps. Farther down the line I can tolerate more foods, so hoping you will be able to.

Yup, lots of foods are off limits now!

lactaid makes a lactose-free cottage cheese that I can tolerate. And now (1 yr out) I can tolerate small amounts of hard cheeses. And sweet protein drinkks - eeeew

My go-to foods now include fat-free re fried beans, fresh strawberries and oranges, apples if eaten w some cheese or nut butter, tofu, homemade hummus (no oil added), steamed cauliflower and broccoli, potatoes (cooked in any way that doesn't use oil/fat), split pea soup, moist fish, and occasionally rotisserie chicken. Eggs make me nauseous, any other meats, any breads, and rice get "stuck", and anything with significant added oil or fats make me very sick. Hope some of those ideas help you!

Many people develop lactose intolerance post surgery. Some other foods disagree with us for various reasons too.
