Liquids before/during meal

Fair enough. I agree on the fact that it is possible to find a research to claim any assertion today.

These detox water recipes- http://www.fabhow.com/how-to-make-your-own-detox-water.html

claim to help you lose weight. How effective they really are, if taken in isolation during an intermittent fast or with the daily routine?

That's an absurd article. Not one fact in it.

Our bodies are not full of toxins, and there is no magic infused water.

Stop looking for miracle cures. The surgery works just great if you follow a pretty simple plan, whi*****ludes not drinking with or after meals.

If you really want to try drinking magic water with your meals, please check back in 5 years, and we can compare weightloss.

Did you have weight loss surgery travsis3890? Why are you arguing about this? I have been a part of this community 9 years now. I don't need to see "studies" or question my bariatric surgeon on this. I have seen first hand what drinking with meals does to people who have had weight loss surgery- they never get to goal or they gain a big part of what they lost back. Of the people I socialize with, I'd guess 90% of those who drink with meals are back up to an obese BMI. I'm one of the few who have maintained 100% of my loss. I will never drink with my meals.

I know it's an unpopular belief, but I'm actually with you on this one.  I've studied the digestive system in anatomy class, and even asked my professors, and I can't find any reliable sourcing for this information.

That said, I don't drink after I eat because adding liquid to a full stomach is uncomfortable.  For comfort reasons, I wait 30-60 minutes.

There's no need to stop drinking before eating. But no drinking at all with meals, or at least 30 minutes after finishing eating.

This is a question that so many bariatric programs answer differently! I have worked in three different clinics and have heard...you guessed it...three different recommendations!! For my patients I am fine with them drinking up until their first bite. Once the first bite has been taken, keep liquids out during the meal time and for 60 minutes afterward - 45 at the very minimum. The other answers are here are spot on! This guideline is to keep food in your stomach pouch longer and keep hunger at bay in between meals to keep away from snacking. Your portion sizes are often smaller too when you avoid fluids with the meal. If you feel like you are really dry or are going to choke, I would encourage you to evaluate the size of bites that you take. Many times (especially meat) dry or choking feelings are too large of bite****ting the top of the stomach pouch. Keep bites the size of a peanut and pause in between ;) And yes...the no fluids with meals or afterwards thing is just for post-ops!!! Non-surgery people are okay to drink with meals because of the pyloric sphincter.

Sorry for the novel but thanks for letting me join in the conversation!

I had that 30/30 rule when I was right out of surgery, but at some point (I think when I was cleared for soft foods), I was told I could drink right up to the point I ate, and then I had to wait at least *60* minutes to start drinking again.  I still follow that rule...
