Diet Doctors say Whey Protein and BCAAs may cause weight gain
More and more leading doctors are discovering that insulin resistance and metabolic syndrome are two primary causes of weight gain that cannot be helped with traditional diet and exercise.
Dr. Robert Lustig author of the New York Times best seller Fat Chance: Beating the Odds against Sugar, Processed Food, Obesity and Disease, and Dr. Ron Rosedale, author of The Rosedale Diet, advise that branch chain amino acids (BCAAs) and protein contribute to insulin resistance and obesity.
Whey protein, which I and the majority of bariatric patients have been conditioned to consume, is one of the worst foods for releasing insulin in the body according to Dr. Andreas Eenfeldt, a Swedish medical doctor and specialist in family medicine.

I've been eating a high-protein diet with protein shakes, and taking BCAAs because I thought I was doing my body good. Maybe I'm not; I have metabolic syndrome. Many years ago my bariatric nutritionist told me that I could diet and exercised all I wanted but if I did not balance my protein and carbs that I would not lose weight. She said that she saw this all the time in her practice.
If metabolic syndrome is the cause of your weight gain, a diet that is low to moderate in calories coupled with an exercise plan may not be enough to lose the weight. And if you continue to eat the wrong foods, exercise and diet may not help at all. Talk to your nutritionist.

I have not decided what I am going to do. I will begin by reading Dr. Lustig's book, which has gotten acclaimed reviews. I would love to hear feedback from anyone who has first-hand knowledge of his approach, which is not all that different from the Pescatarian Paleo Diet that I follow, based on what I know of his recommendations.

For the last two years I've taken bcaa"s every day during /after working out have drank whey protein and made many fun things with the protein. I have maintained and fluctuated between 162-168. No matter ow hard I exercise or how clean I eat I can't get lower. I started to think that the whey/ bcaa"s might be the issue so I stoopoed for three weeks and haven't noticed anything different other than I feel more flabby so back to it I go! Everyone is different and has different reactions. Best of luck to you
