Decaf Coffee Question
From all the research I've done, the popular belief is that caffeine in moderate doses can cause dehydration. It can also have a laxative effect in some people. That's why most doctors recommend sticking to decaf after surgery.
However, there is also a large amount of info on the internet saying this isn't true and studies have proven caffeine doesn't dehydrate you and has beneficial effects in small doses.
My advice would be to check with your doctor and see what they say. You could always try a cup of caffeinated coffee and see how it affects you?

I steered clear of caffeinated coffee until about 4 months postop. I still only will drink it in moderation, though. For some reason the coffee upsets my stomach (diarrhea almost immediately). I drink caffeinated iced tea without any issues, so I am not sure if it is the caffeine or the coffee part...
