My choice of foods  over the past year and a half have not been so wise, and I have gained 25 pounds. I had reverted back to emotional eating after the passing of my mom/best friend. Sooo... It's time to get back to a comfortable weight for me!

I would like to start trying protein bars, but really don't want to have to buy a million different ones, etc. So I'm asking for your favorites please! High protein, low sugar, etc.. and of course they have to taste halfway decent too!!

Many Thanks in advance!  RNY April 2003  341lbs got down to 117 lbs, current weight 180

You'd probably be better off with a pouch of tuna fish or a cheese stick than a protein bar!  Sadly, they're not much more than glorified candy bars.

And I'm sorry for your loss.

I have yet to find one that doesn't taste that waxy grossness.

Gwen is right that you'd probably be better off with some "real" food instead. That said, I do like protein bars (quick & easy, plus when I want something sweet they work).

MY favorites so far are Quest bars and Clif Builders bars - the Clif ones do have a lot of carbs, but since I can only eat about 1/3 of a bar, I don't worry about that. Quest bars are lower in carbs.

Even though actual food is always the best choice, but now and again I need help... So my husband discovered this little beauty for me (well 1st for him then I gave in and tried them, lol). Quest protein bar, chocolate chip cookie dough. www.questnutrition.com

One bar is 190 calories, 8g fat, 21g carbs, 17g fiber, 1g sugar & 21g protein.

My hubby's favorite is the cookies and cream. One bar is 180 calories, 7g fat, 22g carbs, 17g fiber, 1g sugar & 21g protein.   They have a bunch more but these right now are a staple in our house.

These don't have a lot of protein (4g) but they are pure: Larabars -- the ones like Apple Pie only have unsweetened figs, fruit, nuts and cinnamon. They are tasty and low in calories as well.

I always advocate real, whole food over supplements like powders and bars.  I think you will be better served in the long run recommitting to a proper diet and lifestyle rather "dieting" on products.

That said, of all the bars out there I think Quest bars are head-and-shoulders the best.

Some of the atkins bars are pretty good and low in carbs same with the zone bars like fudge graham.

Rise protein bars are delish. My favs are the carob and lemon cashew. Super tasty. They use nuts and pea protein, and natural swewtners like honey and agave. They usually only have 5 ingredients or less so no scary surprise ingredients if you are sensitive like me.

I love the Oh Yeah bars in the chocolate mint flavor.  Taste like a girl scout cookie!
