Pre-Surgical Weight Loss
Hi everyone,
I'm about 2 1/2 months from having insurance approval to get my surgery date (for RNY) and am wondering what anyone did for pre-surgical weight loss (aside from the pre-op shrink your liver diet). I've started trying to eat more like I will be after surgery, at least with replacing 1 to 2 meals a day with a protein shake but am really struggling to feel full at all (or satiated at the very least). I was working out really well also until I sprained my ankle, now waiting for that to heal up so that I can get back into it. I guess with surgery possibly being close I'm starting to feel scared and I might be self sabotaging because it's hard to feel like anything will work for me. I previously had a band in 2008, removed in 2010 for erosion. I thought, at the time, that that was my last ditch effort. I guess now I'm worried this will not be successful for me either. Anyone else ever feel that way?!?
It's good that you want to practice the new way of eating after surgery, it might hard to feel satisfied with shakes. I know I'm almost a year out & I don't feel satisfied with shakes, so you with a full stomach probably won't feel satisfied either, so don't think you'll fail based on that.
One thing I had to practice was not eating & drinking at the same time, I'm guessing rny'ers have to do the same thing, maybe practice that for awhile, as well as weighing your food & eating dense protein, that might satisfy you for awhile, at least till surgery.
I heard the lap band was crappy for a lot of people, so don't feel you can't be successful anymore, you can do this! I wish you the best of luck in your weight loss journey.

It's unlikely that you'll feel sated with protein shakes since they go right through your system like any other liquid. Instead of shakes, perhaps try meals that are protein forward and fill the rest out with healthy green vegetables?

Hi miles,
I feel you, what I can advice is for you to relax and pray that everything will go well. I think the best thing to do is to try searching for detox recipes? Eat more protein, veggies and fruits. I think its a matter of food intake, you can eat what you want but make sure to eat in moderate amount. Stay positive!
