For me a hiccup is my "soft cue"  (hiccup, runny nose, burp, different for everyone) that indicates that I have reached your limit... one or 2 more bites and that would be not good.

LOL I get the hiccups when I am full. If I eat beyond full I get all congested, sneezing, runny nose etc. My nursing friends used to make fun of me but the doctors I worked for had explanations. It still came down to being full, quit eating  :-)

I get hiccups if I eat fast. If I overeat I feel like I want to burp but can't till food settles..if its only one or two mouthfuls its too much..I have to wiat until all food is digested to feel better....

If you eat too fast, that can often give you hiccups.
I also had a friend once who felt ill after eating, and discovered that it was due to acid reflux.
Maybe try slowing down a little when you eat, so you can figure out at what point you begin to feel ill or hiccup.

I get hiccups and a runny nose when I've reached my limit on food. It is a signal to stop eating. I'm thankful for it after all this time.
