Liquid Diet - Getting Depressed
I'm on day 6 of 14. I can deal with the hunger, which is much improved. Energy is fine now. But I'm so depressed because I miss food. Food is how I deal with stress. Food comforts me on a daily basis and without it I'm miserable. I know I need to find other ways to cope, but I don't know where to begin. Any thoughts or advice?
Are you seeing a therapist? That might be a good place to start!

It IS hard! But it is harder walking around every day with your knees and back hurting, or having to take too many prescriptions, or for whatever reason you decided to take this step. This isn't the end of your love affair with food - it is just a hiatus until you can have that interaction in a healthy way.
I am calling my therapist today, because I know my love of food stems from other things in my past. I don't really WANT to dig into it, but I think I have to in order to get to where I want to be for life.
It really does get easier after day 6. My husband thought I might kill him between days 3 and 6!
I can so relate. I had a very bad relationship with food. And the liquid diet is one of the hardest things I ever did do. But once I got over the half way point it did get easier but the beginning is tough. But like someone previously stated what is more depressing is not being able to do what you need to do because of your weight. So keep your head up this surgery is so worth it. I lost over 300 lbs. And it has been life changing.

Im am so nervous about this 2 week liquid diet also....good luck your halfway through! Ill be doing mind on thanks giving ughhhhh!!!
I actually finished it a few weeks ago. The first few days were the worst. I won't lie, it sucks. But the key was to allow hunger to set in. Stay on top of by drinking lots of fluids, and if you're out and about and getting desperate you can always stop and get a little carton of milk to stave off the hunger. Worked for me more than once! I actually lost 12 lbs in that 2 weeks :-)
Good luck!!
my surgery is christmas week. ill be in the hosp for xmas. liquid diet from the 8-22. I work in an office where food is all around.. im not worried about that. im afraid im going to be very hangry and just want to sleep and not work.
I also take bikram yoga and my instructor said not to because ill be weak. I guess i could go for walks..
im sure its written somewhere.. but typically what does this liquid diet entail. I am getting RNY but i know a girl getting the sleeve and she is having protein with skim milk, yogurt and veggies with oil and vinegar?
My liquid diet blended soups, hi-protein meal replacement shakes, very thin oatmeal, milk and smoothies. Their version of a smoothie was milk, a banana, and protein powder ... Disgusting! I made mine with spinach, frozen berries, yogurt, a banana, water and protein powder. Much tastier and healthier. I only felt weak when I let too much time pass between food intake. If I was out and didn't have something with me I would stop at a store and get a small carton on milk. It worked wonders! I have to do it all again for the week before my surgery but at least this time I will know what to expect.
Christmas is a sucky time to be having surgery :-(
good luck!
