I am 2.5 years out and have not had carbonated drinks in about 3 years. I still crave it. Is it a huge mistake to start drinking diet coke again? When, if ever, can I??

I'm almost 7 months out from VSG, I asked my Doctor last month if I wanted one could I have one every now and then he said yes but in some people it hurts and is painful.  It isn't painful when I drink it and he told me IT DOES NOT STRETCH YOUR STOMACH!  On the other hand its not good for any of us to drink it, but if you crave it and can control the intake I say have a 8 oz glass... If you think it would be something you would drink everyday I would leave it alone.

I regret the day I had my first diet coke.  It is so addicting and not really good for you.  Trying to wean off.

I have not tried it and refuse to return to that addiction. Also I am convinced the diet Coke is one reason I could not lose weight before surgery. I am also afraid my gas issues will get worse. Why make things more complicated?  I know if I drink one, that will be the beginning of a decline. I have enough other issues.

Resist! The carbonation can be painful - and "diet" sodas have been proven harmful in many ways as well. It's a path best not travelled.
