How do I find an MD Nutritionist that knows bariatrics?

I have been having a lot of problems with exhaustion. I had iron deficiency anemia and although it is resolved (accoring to my bloodwork), there are days whn I simply cannot get out of bed. My PCP told me to find a Physician Nutritionist (someone with an MD degree) who specializes in or knows the nutritional needs of bariatric patients. My PCP said that this specialist will be able to check me for all of the vitamins ans trace minerals taht I need, and know what bloodwork to look at. The problem is, I do not know how to find such a doctor. Can anyone provide referrals to doctors in the Philadelphia - NJ - New York City area? I am desperate! Thank you!

I've never even heard of a physician nutritionist.  Did you ask your PCP how to find one?  And in the meantime, why can't your PCP order your labs to check your vitamin and mineral levels?  My PCP orders all my labs.

Please note: I AM NOT A DOCTOR.  If you want medical advice, talk to your doctor.  Whatever I post, there is probably some surgeon or other health care provider somewhere that disagrees with me.  If you want to know what your surgeon thinks, then ask him or her.    Check out my blog.

She did order a bunch of labs for me but wanted the nutritionist MD to get to a deeper level and see if there were additional deficiencies leading to the fatigue. I have never heard of a nutritionist MD either. And she told me she did not know any. I called the insurance company and they could not help. I recently switched insurers so maybe the new one can assist. I still do not have as much energy as I should.

I took a list of blood work that needed to be ran off of this site to my
primary doctor. They took 14 vials of blood from me.

I then took that info to a nutritionist (holistic) who specialized in Bariatrics.
I didnt know that there were MD nutritionists.
Google nutritionist in your area. Seems like you are gonna have to do
the work for your doctor. Just keep calling them and asking if they work
with bariatric patients. You will find one.

Also are you sure the exhaustion is physical? Not depression?

Good Luck,
Dani

Oh yes, it was physical exhaustion. Now that my iron levels are back to normal I am feeling much better. Also, Vit B12 sublingual and Vit D3 are good for energy.

How did you find a holistic nutritionist that specializes in bariatrics - was it by calling and asking if they work with bariatric patients? And might you be able to publish that list of blood work that needs to be run in this post?

Thank you, Dani!

Can you ask your insurance company for a referral to someone?  They might know.
