lactose intolerant
So wanting to see if anyone has found some good whey-alternatives. I'm pre-op and take lactaid tabs to be able to avoid gas/diarrhea with my protein shakes but fear it may be worse post-op. Even whey isolate, which is supposedly lactose free, gives me the runs. Any suggestions? I've been eyeing some of the soy- or hemp-based powders at Whole Foods.

Mary - I figured out the problem once I transition to solid foods postop; liquids in, liquids out. Postop I haven't had lactose intolerance since having solid foods though I still buy lactose free milk. Unfortunately, now I have the other extreme problem - constipation! But no problems with whey protein at all now, though a bit sensitive to sugar alcohols so some bars cause "digestive distress" (e.g. toxic gas).

Thank you, I am looking for some soy protein to see how I do with that. My surgery will be soon, (waiting on a date), they are submitting to the insurance next week. I am just worried about getting in my protein after surgery. It would be nice if I was not lactose intolerant after surgery. :) Thanks again.
