Now that I can try real food.......

I had the dilation procedure last Wednesday (I'm 8 1/2 weeks from surgery) b/c I could only do liquids.  Now I can try real food and have had good success w/eggs, hashbrowns, toast, even fruit salad.  My problem seems to come when I do chicken or pork loin--even tho I chew, chew, chew till it is tiny.  I also had a sliced tomato.  Am I pushing the meat too soon?  Am I getting more quantity than I should?  I'm trying to keep it down to about 8 oz total....maybe too much.  Does it matter about the softness at this point?  Any advice?  Does amount of fat affect what you stomach can process?  sugar? I'm so excited to be able to taste something other than protein drinks, tomato soup and chicken soup, I may just be pushing too hard.  Inquiring minds want to know!  Thanks for any help you can offer.
