Pre-Op liquid diet?

I've got my surgery date scheduled and my dr has ordered me to follow a liquid diet for a month prior to surgery. Is this common? I've met someone who had to follow a liquid diet for two weeks and she had a different surgeon/program. Any helpful hints for sticking to it? Thanks in advance and I look forward to being here as I go through my surgery and afterwards -- seems like a very friendly place!

I know every surgeon has their own diet plans they want people to follow so it just depends on the doc. I know I had to be on a high protein diet for the two weeks prior. Not all liquids though and then on clear liquids the two days before surgery. It can be difficult after eating what we want most of the time. Good Luck and hang in there.
