HI,
Had lapband 3 months ago and have experienced quite a bit of hair loss the past two weeks.   My friend experienced the same thing at 4 months post-op.

Doctor said it may be from anesthesia.   Pharmacist said it may be from the gallbladder meds prescribed post-op.

Has anyone else expererience this?

Hair loss is very common after surgery.  Most people experience it to some degree.  It's caused by a combination of things.  Part of it is anesthesia.  It can happen after any type of surgery.  Part of it is the rapid weight loss.  People who lose a lot of weight in a short period of time for any reason often have some hair loss.  If you're having trouble getting enough protein or vitamins, that can make it worse.

It's common after surgery. My surgeon said it can happen 4-6 months after surgery and I"m having issues with it now. I hate it.

Hair loss is very common in wls...it happens because you are eating less calories - that's why protein is so important, it helps reduce hair loss. Up your protein, have another protein shake and use the best shampoos and conditioners money can buy! I threw out all the cheap stuff i had and spent on all natural, that helped alot. I am 3 years post op and my hair is back to it's usual self.

Yes.

It's normal.

No amount of protein or biotin will help with it.

It has to do with a combination of issues.  It usually lasts about 3 - 4 months, then stops.  Then your hair will probably grow back healthier than ever (since I assume your diet is better now).

My hair-dresser who had bypass 2 yrs. ago told me to take Folic Acid; that's what helped her.
