I ate about 500 calories a day for the first year or more after surgery, and it went just fine. As long as you are taking your vitamin supplements, getting 60-80 grams of lean protein per day, and keeping your labs current at the doctor's office, you should be fine. Your body will be living off of your stored fat, and as it uses it up, your weight will continue to drop.
