vitamin D

I am just 3 weeks post op, and wondering if I should take Vitamin D proactively.  I read so much about the vitamin D deficiencies, and I live in Alaska, where, because of our lack of sun in the winter, vitamin D deficiencies are very common anyway.  I am already taking Bariatric Advantage multi, calcium, iron, and B-12, but I'd rather be proactive than wait until I have a problem.

Absolutely, yes! The RDA on vitamin D is now 1000 iu per day, not 400 iu. I take 3 to 4000 per day and my levels are still low. With our malabsorbtion, it's almost impossible to get too much vitamin D. Make sure you get the "dry" form, not a oil-filled softgel, we won't absorb it.

I had a bit of a vitamin D deficiency, and this is what my nutritionist recommended, along with 20 minutes a day in the sun without sunscreen.

Vitamin D 1000 IUs daily Vitamin D3 is the best bioavailable form; take with healthy fat (olive oil, nuts, avocado) in the meal for better absorption.
