Dental/teeth issues--why? How to combat?

I was reading a post on the main board, and 3 of the respondants had just had ALL their teeth pulled. Another was breaking teeth left and right.... This scared the heck out of me!!!! I didn't go through four years of braces to lose my teeth!

So, here are my questions:

1. What causes the tooth decay/issues?
2. Have you experienced problems?
3. Any recommendations for combating?

My dentist recommends using ACT rinse, daily.

Its a calcium, vit D and mag issue. Low levels will cause cracking cavities, gum line cavities. The dentist said your teeth are the last to go.If you've got bad teeth your bones have already gone bad.

That sounds rediculous! Is that really possible? I've been having dental issue and I'm just 1 year out. I am vit D deficient and am on a prescription. However, I had dental issues before RNY.

I would like a response from a nutrionist.

Thanks!

That was then.... but this is now......
