I am 3 weeks out and only getting about 15 grams of protein a day!  Can someone give me some food ideas?  I am not crazy about the protein shakes and drinks.  Any advice would be GREATLY appreciated.

Are you eating mushy foods yet ?       I got use to the shakes- now I count on them to help me get int he ## of protein that I need daily !! There are flavored protein bullets  (25 grams, 42 grams) that you can get...dilute w/water, etc..... find a way to get them down................ As for right now................what about  1% cottage cheese ?  I loved it.    I lived on cottage cheese, cheese and, lowfat yogart..................... You may want to check with your NUT for more details.

  • Pease check out Dr. Connie Stapleton's Website. A lot of good information on there for all WLS patients regardless of the surgery you chose.  Good luck to all and I'm here for you if you want to send me an email.  I'll answer it as soon as possible.

I get them at GNC.  The cost is about 3.49 for one.  If you become a gold member the first ten day of each month you get a 15% discount.  I think it is well worth it.Nicole

New Whey Shots  are delicious and can be found at a lot of websites,  I think SupplementKingdom has the best price though.

Hi All
You might want to go back to a post just 2 posts after this one about Protein Quality Guidelines.

Basically the ASMBS ... the bariatric surgeons...suggests caution using collagen protein...and the "bullets" are almost entirely collagen protein.

I wasn't crazy about protein shakes/drinks either...but it is vital that you get your protein in, so drink them. If you can tolerate milk or soy milk even, they are also good sources of protein.

I am at about the same point you are and am using cottage cheese and yogurt.  I hate the shakes too!

OK, I'm gonna spank you people who HATE protein drinks. It's not about liking them or not. Find one that you can tolerate and use it. It's like your vitamins or other meds - not optional. You absolutely cannot eat enough protein if you've had RNY. You are only gonna absorb 50% of the protein you eat and that means you'd have to eab 160 grams of protein a day to get 80 grams. Use a shake or bullet. Do you like the taste of Nyquil when you have a cold? These supplements are the price you pay for having the wonderful tool you've been given and are not an option. Just do it!!! It's no good to lose weight and be unhealthy. No whining!!! DO IT!!!
Hugs,
Lana
