I need advice

I'm starting my pre-op diet on Tuesday and need advice on protein drinks. I've had Isopure and that's pretty good but expensive. I though I might want to add some protein powder to mix with skim milk. I went to the store to check them out, but I can't make heads or tails out of them and what the differences are. Does anyone have any suggestions? What did/do you like? Also I've read a lot about the Magic Bullet mixer...is it worth the cost or are other mixers just as good? Thanks.

Hi There.  You may want to see if anyone posts on my topic I just added to the board.. it may help you as well (protein help).  If you're doing the pre op diet...do you not have the pre packaged pre op bariatric "foods???"  We could only have Propel, water, and ummm.. any water that was 10 calories or LESS... no gatorade, sugar waters, anything like that....  As for the bullet.. the magic bullet mixer.. I didn't get that name brand.  I went to Kohls and got the same thing but it's by "Bella".. works wonderful! It was only 24.00.  I did see that Krogers grocery stores had pretty much the same thing and they had them for 15.00.  I think they all do the general work you want :-)  Don't buy into "name brand" .. you'll pay more in the end. Good luck with everyone! Annette

I would first suggest you purchase a bunch of protein powder samples.  Don't spend a fortune on a bunch of big jars of protein powder that you don't know if you'll even like after your surgery.  Your tastes WILL change after surgery.  I went through about 4 dozen samples before I settled on a few flavors I loved enough to buy a whole jar of.  I have listed in my OH Profile a bunch of resources online and locally where you can buy/find samples.  As for the Magic Bullet.  I bought one.  Hated it and took it back to the store.  I ended up buying the Oster Fushion instead.  I didn't like the Bullet because the cups are small and don't really function as a regular full size blender for the rest of life's needs. Also I didn't like that the contents I was blending were all trapped inside the cup and if I needed to add an extra ice cube or splash of water I had to unscrew and disassemble the whole thing, add the extras, reassemble it all and blend again.  I like the convenience of a real blender where I can just lift the lid, throw something inside and keep blending.  Also I wanted a full size jar that I could use for all the rest of the tasks I needed a blender for -- not just making protein shakes.  For the first 3 months after my surgery, i actually just used my 15 year old blender and it was perfectly fine.  But then I broke the jar and needed to replace it.  I decided on the Oster Fushion because I liked that it also had food processing capabailities.  HTH Pam
