Protein Requirments?

Hi, How much protein do we need per meal/day?  Does it depend upon your weight?

Speaking very generally, women tend to need at least 60 grams per day, men need around 80 grams per day.  Depends on your height, weight, gender and activity level.  Here's a link to an online calculator that can give you a basic estimate -> http://www.healthcalculators.org/calculators/protein.asp Keep in mind that WLS patients do not absorb everything we take in, so you may need more protein than is indicated by this calculator.  It's always best to consult with a nutritionist or dietcian for personalized advice.   Good luck on your continuing journey - Kellie

My surgeon recommended around a minimum 75 grams of protein daily. Due to malabsorption of WLS, many patients take a larger quantity, of 100-125.  I'm almost 2 years out, and I still take a protein supplement shake 2-3 times per week, to make sure i get enough protein.
