Everyone's pouch is a different. So, yes, it is normal. You will slowly be able to eat more. I tell my clients that it's normal to be able to eat 1/2 sandwich, a piece of fruit, and 4 oz milk for a meal around 1 year post op. So, it's normal to want to start eating a little more. If you are still hungry after 4 oz, then go ahead a have another 1 oz of food. But, don't pu**** If you're comfortable after 4 oz, stick with 4 oz for now. As for the calories, carbs calculations, I will need to do a full nutritional assessment on you. In order to get the numbers right, I often need to know a lot more -- such as : weight, height, medical history, weight loss history, exact surgery you had, social history, medications ..... to name a few. I'm sure there many people on this board will tell you how much they are eating, and that can work as a guildline for you. However, if you want the numbers that best meet your body's needs, I would recommend you see a dietitian. If one does not work with your surgeon, you can go to : www.eatright.org & search for one in your area, OR, you can got to find a : other professional on the OH website, OR go to www.enutritioncare.com. Good luck!

Sunflower seeds are great! You want to have about 1/4 cup (shelled) each day. Try not to eat too much more than that -- even though they are considered a healthy food, they are high in fat (the good fat), the calories can add up. Good luck!

Next month will be 2 years since my RNY. I too felt like I could eat more than 4 oz.  The majority of the meal should be protein, and try to eat that first. Have some veggies, and minimal starch.  Your nutritionist should have established a carb or calorie regimine for you, as every person may have some variables.  But also do everything else you've done till now--exercise, hydrate, vitamins and calcium citrate, and supplemental proteins. Even at 2 years out, I'll have a protein shake 2-4 times per week to make sure I'm getting enough protein.

Hi Kevin,  I use DailyPlate.com to track my food and nutrients (totally free website) and there is a neat feature on there where you enter your height and weight and weight loss goals (including maintenance) and then it asks you your activity level (sedentary is included, thank goodness!) and it spits out how many calories you need per day to achieve that goal. Like right now I am 7 weeks out of surgery and entered "lose 4lbs a week" and "sedentary lifestyle" and it spit out 766 cals, which is right on with what I have been tracking and that is almost exactly the rate at which I have been losing.  Check it out, it gives you total fiber, carbs, sugar, all vitamins and nutrients, etc. Good Luck!
