Iron supplements

I am new to this board and appreciate this opportunity. My question is this:  Is there any other alternative to taking Foltrin to get the supplementation I need 9 years out from gastric bypass surgery? My insurance doesn't cover it and I was hoping a sublingual Vitamin B12 supplement might be sufficient.  I am just wondering what my alternatives are. I look forward to hearing from the nutrition forum specialists on this matter.  Thanks!!

Many companies offer B supplements in many forms. Purtian Pride has some, I'm sure your local pharmacy also has OTC brands.  Do you just have a b12 defficiency or other b vitamins too--in regards to your sublinguql question?

AS a follow up, I'll mention 2 women I spoke to within the past 36 hours about iron. One woman (4 months RNY post op)had recent labs done, and the surgeon called her and asked if she's taking any iron supplement. She said no. Then the surgeon said that her iron levels were high, and NOT to take any iron supplement, or she could have some problems. This was at a support group meeting.            I had a woman call me from northern CA yesterday in regards to iron. She is a RNY over 4 years ago, and had recently had some tests at the hospital. She is NOT absorbing iron in her body. She is on the strongest iron available, and it has warnings about overdosing in bold letters on the label.        So iron metablism will vary from patient to patient. Only you lab work will tell you and your doctor if you need an iron supplement at all, or if you need a LOT of iron due to malabsorption. It vaires on the person.
