I have a question about what i really shouldn't have to eat. I am just at one month post surgery and my nutritionalist told me that it was okay to eat most anything except starchy foods, such as breads, potatoes, beans, peas, corn, cereals, etc. I was told to make water/fluids my top priority and protein my next, about 70 grams per day using eggs, cheese and meat... then veggies if i have room and maybe a small amount of fruit. it just sounds unhealthy to me, my question what would be the problem with beans? is it really necessary to cut out that as well? i see others on this site eating so many more foods than my nut recommends... are some of these food harmful or useless to me? i just am wanting some substance or something.

Hi Eleese, firstly, congrats on your journey.  :)  I know the stages of eating after surgery can get a bit confusing but it's important to follow what your nutritional staff has recommended.  Protein is a high priority.  Lean meats, turkey, fish, chicken, eggs and lower fat cheeses should be the bigger portion of your meals, however, you can incorporate veggies and some fruits as your nut has suggested.  Protein helps us build/maintain muscle during rapid weight loss and helps us stay satisfied. Fluids - 64oz minimum, some do 80-100oz per day. Beans are a great source of protein as well. Some people can't do them because beans slide out of the pouch quicker than meats do, but other patients can and are okay with beans/legumes.  The downside is the gas they can cause.   You definitely need to follow what your nutritionist has set forth for you.  You can always ask your nut to make adjustments to see what works for you and what your pouch can handle.   Wishing you well! ~Shannon
