Lab values...
I saw the NUT and Nurse today, and overall my labs were really good. Of course I didn't take my copy of them and look them over until I was out of there...so there are a couple of values that are low and I don't know what they really mean. I'm not due to go back and see the NUT again until July.
Anyone know what these are:
HCT (normal is 37 - 47), mine was 35.5
Retic Absolute (50.0 - 75.0), mine was 34.9
TIBC (275 - 425), mine was 236
AGAP (8 - 16), mine was 7
HCT is hematocrit or blood count. 35.5 is pretty good for a young woman still having menstrual cycles. It correlates to a hemoglobin of 11-12.
Retic Absolute is th eabsolute number of reticulocytes or young red blood cells that you have and indicate your body's attempt to increase your blood count. You're not making a lot of red blood cells right now, but you don't really need to be (given your blood count) so don't worry about it.
TIBC is the total iron binding capacity in the blood- again prob not too bad post bypass
Anion gap has to do with the electrolytes in the blood and the balance thereof. As long as the other numbers were normal, again don't worry about it
