Low protein in blood...

I will get more info from my NUT next week when I see her, but my 8 month labs are back and my protein is a little low and my hemoglobin is down (still within normal though, 12.3). Any idea why the protein would be down, even when I have upped the protein in my diet? Would this contribute to my fatigue?

It can contribute to your fatigue. Absolutely. What protein lab are you looking at? There are many & are not created equal. The lab you want to ask your doctor to check is prealbumin. This value reflects your diet in the last 72 (ish) hours. If you are looking at other labs like albumin, it takes more than 30 days to reflect your changed eating habits. Other things that affect the lab value is : 1. Recent weight loss 2. Hydration status 3. Exercise -- Just because your level is low (and it depends how low it actually is), doesn't necessarily mean you are protein deficient. Reading lab values is not black & white --- it takes a lot to read them --- if you are concerned, ask your doctor. He or she should explain the values to you.

I will definitely be doing that this week when I see my NUT. Thank you! :)
