Hi All, I'm new here and in the pre-op stage prior to banding. I looked on Amazon and saw many books (both cook books and life-style books) having to do with weight loss surgery. Do any of you have recommendations for the best books? Thanks!

I know alot of people who buy Weight Loss Surgery for Dummies, I know of a coupld of people who have it and like it very much, I may buy that this week.   I have my RNY 02/13/08 and am home recovering.   My sister did buy me Eating Well after Weight Loss Surgery by Patt Levine and Michele Bontempo-Saray.   I think she bought it off Amazon.   She works with a woman who had RNY in August 06, and she said it was her bible, something she referred to many times a day in the beginning and still does.   There are alot of good recipes in there also.   Hope this helps! Thanks, Michelle--I think I might get those, then. I'm one of those people who likes lots of information. Love these forums for that and all the support, too. (I even went online and watched both RNY and Lap-band surgeries on webcasts :-)

I really didnt find benefit in WLS for dummies infact after flipping through it I gave it to someone else who was going to have surgery.. the 3 books I thougth were great are Success Habits of WLS http://www.amazon.com/Success-Habits-Weight-Loss-Surgery-Pat ients/dp/0974017973/ref=pd_ys_ir_b_15?pf_rd_p=258372101&pf_r d_s=center-1&pf_rd_t=1501&pf_rd_i=list&pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER &pf_rd_r=064AV9RF92TJXZM6AF7R Exodus from Obesity http://www.amazon.com/Exodus-Obesity-Long-Term-Success-Surge ry/dp/0972805028/ref=pd_sim_b_title_2 and It aint over til the thin lady sings http://www.amazon.com/Aint-Over-Thin-Lady-Sings/dp/089793491 1/ref=pd_sim_b_title_14 as for cookbooks... just google "pureed recipes", "bariatric recipes" or "wls recipes" and you'll find a bunch.  Also, Susan Maria (www.bariatriceating.com) has a great selection of recipes as well as the recipe message board here on OH! good luck :)

I can highly recommend Weight Loss for Dummies, especially for all the technical details, eating, etc. But what most books leave out are the emotional aspects of the weight loss, including the issues that got us to this point in the first place. I can highly recommend This is NOT Brain Surgery...but there is a magic pill - A mental health companion for the Gastric Bypass patient.  By Dr. Teri Kai Holtzclaw Ph.D.  It's part regular book, part workbook, to help us though the emotional and mental situations you'll encounter after surgery. It's expensive new, but I found it used through Amazon. Mark

I am going thru the Gysinger weight loss program and will be picking my surgeon soon.  We were required to read Weight loss Surgery by Barbara Thompson.

It has a wealth of info!
