What is the harm in Coffee?
Hello,
as you get further post op...... and out of surgery..
you can adjust your diet as you adapt to the new lifestyle.
regular caffeine coffee tends to dehydrate us weight loss patients more.
we get dehyrated very fast. sometimes we can end up in the hospital for dehydration.
so be very careful....
this is why we should always sip on our water throughout the day
when we are not eating we should be sipping on our water.
stay dedicated to this surgery.
we have to drink more water if we have regular caffeine coffee.
that is a must....
thats what i do right after i drink my morning coffee....
just be very dedicated and drink more water after you have coffee.
and you should be fine. Although i am really not sure if that really works.
i just drink my water and stay hydrated right after i have my regular coffee.
coffee really does make us so dry....
Also i have read and researched that regular coffee tends to also rub calcium out of our body.
We are already malnutrition from our surgery.....
So it is best to limit your regular cups of coffee to only 1 or 2 cups a day
if you want coffee in the afternoon , stick with decaf coffee or decaf herbal teas.
stay away from caffeined anything ! caffeine is not good for us.
Please follow this up with your surgeon and nutritionist.
good luck to you :-)

Here's what I tell my clients: if you drink 1 cup (8 oz) of coffee per day -- then, fine. Have it. No need to bother with decaf. If you're one of those people who drinks coffee all day long -- well, then you're going to have work with the decaf coffee or herbal tea. As far as the pre-op diet. I restricted coffee 48 hours prior to surgery. Every surgeon is different, so if your surgeon is telling you "NO COFFEE", then, you should stick to his/her rules. You don't want to start breaking the rules this early ..... not following directions is a fast way to get an ANGRY surgeon. Good luck.

Just to clear one thing up - coffee is not dehydrating as once thought. There has been good research on this. Now, I'm not asking you to go against your doctors advise - no, no, no. Just clearing up the issue about fluids. we've posted on this before - see attached link http://www.obesityhelp.com/forums/nutrition/a,messageboard/a ction,replies/board_id,5389/cat_id,4989/topic_id,3423933/pag e,1/#26675098
