Earlier this week, I posted an entry about how much protein is too much protein.  We had some good discussion, but I did not find the "firm" answer I was looking for.  I did some additional searching online and found at least one article -- linked below -- which suggests that consuming more than 30% of your daily calories from protein could actually harm your body.  I'm consuming 25-30% of my daily calories from protein, so under this calculation I should be just fine.  http://www.medicinenet.com/script/main/art.asp?articlekey=50 900 Another article at about.com puts the upper threshold at 35% ->  http://lowcarbdiets.about.com/od/nutrition/a/protein.htm Anyway, we'd had a good discussion about this and I wanted to share the additional information; I hope some find it to be of interest -  Kellie

I don't think it's a good idea to compare post-op WLS populations to the ones mentioned in these links.  WLS creates a completely different metabolic picture - looks to me like they are talking about body builders and dieters in these articles.

"Too much protein" is an unknown variable - it is dependent upon your individual body systems, habits, genetics, and more. Though I agree that the usual intake of protein should be approximately 20% of your calories, with WLS I throw those recs out the window. I'll look up the discussion...
