I know people really say to stay away from carbs, but is the quaker weight control oatmeal a good breakfast choice at 3 months post op?

I've been eating Cream of Wheat since week 6. Some cold mornings I need hot cereal. Just get in your 60 grams of protein elsewhere that day. You could also try adding protein powder to the oatmeal, but that can really change the taste/texture.

I would check with my NUT, but I would say so.  Oatmeal has carbs, but it also has fiber.  When I was on WW, I would add fiber (like benefiber) to EVERYTHING because it lowered the point values of food.  Since then, I always think of fiber as the "carb cancellor"!  However, I think the weight control oatmeal has artificial sweeteners in it, just in case that's something you try to avoid.  I like the Quaker Naturals Whole Grain Cereals because they're just as quick as other instants, lightly sweetened with honey or sugar (no corn syrup), and REALLY filling.  At 3 mos, 1 packet could probably be 2 breakfasts or snacks...it requires a lot of chewing, but it tastes great and will have you thinking your eating much more than you actually are.

Thanks. I got frozen steelcut oats at trader joes and I like those too. I just noticed the weight control had more protien. I couldn't figure it was abad choice since oats are supposed to be so good for you.

I have been eating the Kashi GoLean hot cereals.  They have 8-9g protein and 5-7g fiber and are yummy.  You can add more or less water to get the consistency you need. Take care.

Another option I've found that I love is the oatmeal sold at focus28wellness.com.  It tastes great  (I do add a little Splenda) and has 15 grams of protein.
