My NUT has said it is okay if I have a protein fruit smoothie every afternoon for my high protein snack if I want to.  It has real fruit blended with ice and Gladiator protein.  She just said that I'd need them to add fiber to it or it wouldn't count as my fruit serving. So someone please tell me why I need fiber added for it to count as my fruit serving?  I am NOT having any bowel issues and I have always through fiber was to keep you regular.   I know I should research this myself, but I just honestly don't have the time this week.  HELP!

Colon health, and heart health!  Soluble fiber binds to cholesterol and then you eliminate it (poop it out!).  Insoluble fiber makes your bowels work, which reduces the chance of colon cancer.  Also, it helps you feel full longer. HTH!!

Well, typcially when you make a smoothie, you peel the skin off the fruit and toss it in the trash -- well, there went a lot of the fiber ... right in the trash. Fiber is good for you for many, many reasons - from keeping you regular, to colon health, to decreasing your cholesterol .... if your NUT is pushing the fiber in you -- and if your are peeling your fruit for the smoothie, then, sure, add the fiber. But my question would be ... why not just keep the skin on the fruit? I'm not sure why your NUT would want you to supplement - unless your usual fiber intake is low ... I guess you should as your NUT.
