For a nutritionist
I am struggling in knowing how to balance my carbs and proteins etc .. I had RNY 9-15-03 .. then around the first of 05 I started having seizures and with the first one and being in the hospital was told that it was reactive hypoglycemia .. I did not before nor do I now have diabetes .. I had a total of 4 seizures in 05 and thought I was through with them til I again June 1 07 had another one and again July 3 07 .. the aura's come sometime after I eat and so I cannot tell what it is that I have ate or haven't ate that is bringing these on .. Could you please give me a ballpark figure on the amount of protein, carbs, fats, sugars I should have at a setting as well as in a day .. and to try to do 5 or 6 small meals how to break that up .. When I had my surgery I was quite sick and in the hosp for approx 5 weeks .. then not any better after going home and then back in the hospital .. so as far as "the basics" go .. I didn't really get an opportunity to go there .. I couldn't eat period and had TPN twice .. any help would be very appreciative .. Thanks, Rhonda
This is a really individualized situation. I would need a LOT more information to answer your question effectively. Can you make an appointment with a dietitian? Maybe the one associated with your surgeon? If they are suggesting reactive hypoglycemia and it is leading to seizures, then I think you have a very valid medical reason to get a referral to a dietitian.
Don't try and do this on your own - call a professional to do a personal evaluation and assessment. If you don't have a dietitian, you can use the American Dietetic Association's referral (at www.eatright.org) system to find one or use an online dietitian.
Good Luck!

Thanks Danielle, I have put that off and have been trying to do it on my own but think as you said that I need to do something more .. I will be checking with my Dr on this .. just thought maybe I could "do this myself" .. a control issue .. smile .. I have a therapist I have been working on this with too .. thanks again .. Rhonda
Just a quick update or note .. I did finally check with my PCP Dr .. and will be seeing him this coming Wed about my reactive hypoglycemia problems .. hopefully I can get a referal to a dietician that help me balance things out .. and hope that insurance can approve as well .. Will post more later after I see the Dr ..
