Should you take a Protein Supplement after RNY

I have a friend that is 3 months post op (RNY).  I just found out his doctor did not put him on a Protein Supplement.  He is only getting his nutrition through the food he eats.  Is this right?  My doctor put me on 75 grams of Protein Supplement + the foods I could eat.   We all know at 3 months out that is not very much.  What should I tell my friend, I am very concerned for him.

If he can get 75-85g of protein from food, great. If he can not (which most people can not), then he has to take protein supplements. Unfortunately, some doctors give better guidelines than others. I'd tell your friend to start taking protein shakes. He also may want to visit a registered dietitian to be sure he is on the right track (nutritionally). Sounds like his doctor doesn't offer much for nutritional guidence.

P.S. You can tell Dr. Felix that Sara and David Nejat-Bina said hello -- my husband worked with Dr. Felix for a while .... :)
