Forcing myself to eat and drink
I am 5 weeks post-op and have no desire to eat or drink. I fix something and take a couple sips or bites and stare at it the rest of the day. I sip on water but know I am not getting enough. I can't stand the sweetness of flavored waters or crystal light, etc. so feel very limited. I tried Isopure and hated that as well. I dry heave several times a day. Any ideas?
It's not uncommon to lose your appitite or desire to eat. It is uncommon for you to have the dry heaves all day.
Do you only dry heave or do you also vomit when something is in your pouch?
Try this -- go back to your clear liquid diet. Baby your pouch for 24 hours. Call your surgeon and let him or her know about the dry heaves and lack of appitite.
Slowly go back to adding food into your diet -- continue to baby the pouch. Try a soft low fiber diet - chew your food VERY, VERY, VERY well.
Relax when you eat. Relax after eating.
Try it ... hopefully some post-op people will also respond with some more advice.
Good luck
