Can you Divas of Diet and Nutrition give me an idea how long it takes to get your numbers back up!?!?! I'm taking  2 Vitron -C's 3 times a day and revving up my "iron diet" thanks to a previous post... My ferritin was a 2 when I had my pre-op blood work done. I'm scheduled for a LBL Oct 17th. Surgeon hasn't said one way or another as far as cancelling but I just wanted your wisdom on the issue. Thanks for being here!!! Deanna 200lbs lost, 5 yrs out

Your ferritin is only part of the picture. Your docs won't make up their mind about surgery based on that.  They will more likely look at your Hemoglobin/Hematocrit levels, total blood cell counts, and your albumin levels. Your blood replaces itself about every 60 days.  Changes in iron intake usually take about a month to be noticed on labs.  These numbers vary by individual - so you may be special! Make sure you are doing the most to absorb your iron.  Don't have calcium at the same time, don't have caffeine or tea (methylphenidates) at the same time, include good sources of heme iron (animal origin - like meat), and exercise!  Exercise makes your body demand more oxygen so your body will "up-regulate" the production of red blood cells. Good luck - and thanks for calling me a diva...that never happens

DIVA Danielle Thanks for the info!!! I didn't know about the caffeine...another good excuse to kick the habit!!! Exercise will be a bit of a struggle right now (a little woozy and weak) but I'll get started. Maybe I can get the "walk off the pounds" dvd out. Not too strenuous. Thank again!!!
